As Harry Potter mania sweeps the globe, here's a link to a story I wrote a few years ago: Harry Kim And The Goblet Of Coffee

I am avoiding spoilers for the final book like the plague. Which means I am going to be staying completely away from any and all things Internet starting this weekend, and lasting until I've read the book for myself. (Which may take a while, as my kids get priority). It's not my friendslist I'm worried about, it's mainstream news sites like the New York Times who I can just see running headlines like, "Fans React To Harry's Death In Final Chapter Of Saga." [Note: I have no idea who, if anyone, dies, nor do I have any idea of any plot developments whatsoever. I have speculated, along with everyone else, but I have no foreknowledge of what events will play out. Nor do I want any. Not because I'm such a big Harry Potter fan--I'm not--but I would still like to read the book in relative peace and quiet, like I would any other piece of literature--without knowing the end before I even begin.]

I suspect you'll have to lock yourself away from all outside communication, including TV, newspapers and children if JKR kills off Harry Potter .

Exactly. I'm not even going to be checking email, as sites like gmail and Yahoo run a little news blurb at the top of the page. The computer is staying *off*. (Can't turn the children off, but I trust their discretion. Mostly).
